Dear Mads,
My name is César Bourgeois. I am a French-born, Italy raised designer. I am contacting you today to submit Andret, a typeface I have been working on for the last couple of years, for your consideration, to integrate it in your library. A bit of context:
After graduating from high-school in 2017, I spent a year abroad to gain experience in different professional structures. I have been employed as a freelancer for companies and as an intern at design studios. In parallel to working abroad, I began sketching typefaces and immersed myself in independent studies of type design.
After returning to Italy, I attended an advanced design course at the CFP Bauer in Milan. The studies included an internship where I worked with Alessio D’Ellena, resulting in the utmost instructive training I’ve ever experienced. Typography was at the forefront of multiple projects, and it generated in me a higher aptitude and confidence as I executed them. Along with this internship, I worked as a teaching assistant in D’Ellena’s Advanced Type Design Course. Here I taught Glyphs Application to students and followed each of them in their projects. Since I concluded this course at CFP Bauer, I am actively collaborating with Alessio D’Ellena on type-related projects, and I got hired to be his assistant in IED Torino & CFP Bauer.
Andret morphed during this time frame influenced by the people I met, professors I asked for feedback and my awareness that grew over time. I never had a precise idea of where the typeface should go it has always been a workflow to discover how to give a tone to the system, how to space it right or how some minimal changes can have an impact on the perception of it. So, what do we end up with, you may ask yourself? An eight weights font family plus italics, with a general appeal to use it as a text typeface but the two extremes will result to their best in large sizes. Squared curves and angled joints—only thing that survived from a previous ink-trap version—. Right now the typeface is not finished, I thought it was the right time to propose it publicly to have a more serious follow-up. I truly admire what you’ve released through Bold Decision and see Andret as a meaningful addition to your catalogue.
Hoping this caught your interest! I am available for any further information if required.
Regards,
César Bourgeois
